Not Your Mama’s School Picture Day

Remember When?

I still remember the year that I took my worst school pictures. It was 5th grade. I forgot that it was school picture day, and I wore a horrendous shirt with two pink flamingoes. There was a pre-pay system back then, and when the photos came in, I was mortified. Not only did the pink flamingoes prove to be a bad choice, but my hair was sticking out to one side like I had rolled out of bed, threw on my best pink flamingo shirt, and said CHEESE.

I’m so glad that for the sake of my children and all children across the world that pre-pay is going away. And bad photography. And saying “CHEESE.”

When I learned about fine arts school photography, something lit a fire in me. I knew that I had to jump in and make a difference in the world of school photography. I knew that I wanted to create beautiful images at affordable prices that families could cherish forever.

What happened to the pictures in the flamingo shirt? I’m pretty sure that I threw them away at some point. There is value in capturing the moment, no matter how horrendous, but I am so excited to see a movement in the school photography community that puts those photos to rest.
